The county of Derbyshire and Doctor Who have a long and illustrious history.

Firstly, there’s Wenley Moor, home to the Wenley Moor nuclear research facility from Doctor Who and the Silurians. Then there’s that pesky Master; when he tried to launch a second invasion of the Kraals where did he choose to open the wormhole in The Trail of the White Worm? Derbyshire, that’s where.

John Hurt is from Derbyshire too…Then there’s Delia Derbyshire… she counts right?

Okay, so the show may not have venture to the East Midlands too often but the love maintained for Doctor Who by its populace is unwavering. The area is home to the Whoovers, one of the most popular fan groups in the country and this weekend, the sixth annual East Midlands biggest fan get-together, Whooverville 6, has pulled off something of a coup.

The Fifth Doctor, played by Peter Davison, will be appearing at the QUAD arts centre in Derby as a guest for Whooverville 6, where he’ll be joined by Deborah Watling, who played Second Doctor companion Victoria, Terry Molloy, who played Davros, creator of the Daleks; David Troughton, who played Professor Hobbs in Midnight, and Michael Troughton, author. Both are sons of Patrick Troughton.

Not only do you get all the in-front of camera talent; there’s also a few familiar names from behind the scenes too. Joining the roster of names above will be Derrick Sherwin, former script editor, writer and producer during the Second Doctor’s era and Bob Baker, writer (with Dave Martin) of The Claws Of Axos, The Three Doctors and The Sontaran Experiment to name just a few.

The Whooverville event is a chance to have your photo taken with the TARDIS, catch up on gossip from the latest series, buy new and classic merchandise, take part in a Doctor Who podcast, add to the autograph album and meet some of the people behind your favourite show.

Whooverville 6 takes place tomorrow, Saturday 29th August 2014 from 10am until 6pm.

Tickets cost £40, £25 concessions and £10 for children aged under ten.

For more information or to book, call QUAD’s box office on: 01332 290606 or go to www.derbyquad.co.uk/special-event/whooverville-6 for the full programme details.
